The
sixth grade students have been very
busy over the last several months doing many exciting things.
In Religion class, we are studying our ancestors in faith. We
composed
beautiful acronym prayers about God's creation, typed them on the
computer,
and embellished them with computer art.
Learning about Egypt has made Social Studies a time we look forward
to. We
have researched the area and presented our findings in a variety of
ways
... artwork, display boards, brochures, an original play, web
quests, as
well as several beautifully designed pyramids.
We've had fun in
math, as we learned all about decimals, fractions and
percentages. We'll be applying our knowledge by converting
recipes to accommodate larger and smaller servings ... and
hopefully eating the end results!
The Fair Housing project is currently in progress. This contest
is only for sixth grade students in Monmouth County. We'll all
be doing a poster depicting our concepts of what it means for
all people to have access to decent housing, regardless of their
race, nationality, age, or limitations. As a result of working
on our posters, we've learned about the law and how unfair
discrimination is. If we win, we receive a bond and we also have
our poster published in the 2009 Fair Housing Commission's
calendar.
Sixth grade has been both educational and enjoyable so far and
we look
forward to the rest of the year.
