To: Santa, Parents and Friends From: Mrs. Forgione Christmas is approaching quickly, and if you’re wondering whether the third graders have been naughty or nice, I’m here to assure you that they’ve been wonderful! During their first semester the students have worked diligently and well in all their studies and they’ve been very kind and helpful to each other. Should you be wondering how to enhance their studies with some lovely Christmas gifts, I’ll tell you what’s ahead. In Religion, we’re preparing for the advent of Baby Jesus. We’ll trace His family history on the Jesse Tree, and continue to learn about the sacraments, and the saints. Wonderful gifts would be The Lives of the Saints and Bible Stories for Children. In Math, we’re investigating money; the telling of time; and eventually concepts of multiplication and division. Clocks, watches, play money, flash cards and any related computer games or manipulatives would be much fun. In Language Arts, we hope critical thinking skills will perhaps; motivate our future authors, inventors, scientists, and world leaders. To strengthen writing skills age appropriate dictionaries and thesauruses would be most helpful. (Scholastic has a great dictionaries and thesauruses.) In Social Studies, we will advance in the study of Geography. The focus will be on climate, land forms, and various regions. Globes and maps, plus children’s geographic magazines would surely be enriching. I hope Santa’s elves have had time to prepare some extra school supplies, too. I know that the third graders could use new pencils, crayons, rulers, etc. I hope that these hints have been helpful, and that each of you will enjoy the most precious gift of all: Christ’s peace in your hearts! Merry Christmas!
