Welcome to the
2011-2012 school year! We are very excited and hope to make it a
pleasant learning experience for your child. We would like to
take this time to welcome both you and your child to
kindergarten.
This year’s
curriculum will be both challenging and exciting. The
Kindergarten Reading Readiness Program consists of three
components: Sounds and Letters, Story Thinking and Literature.
The first Literature theme revolves around “School.” The
children will be involved in reading and making books about the
“school” theme. We will also be learning two letters of the
alphabet per week. From September to December, we will
concentrate on learning letter recognition and some knowledge of
letter sounds. In January, our reading program goes into a more
in-depth study of letter sounds and critical thinking.
Your child will
be using the HBJ Mathematics Plus series for math. One
introduces concepts of left and right, same and different, and
position words. There are twelve chapters in the series.
Most important,
the main objective of our curriculum is to build on the
foundation of the spiritual, intellectual, and social knowledge
that your child has brought to Saint Jerome. We hope to instill
an interest in learning and to foster a happy and healthy
outlook for your child’s future school years.

Your child
receives a folder that is sent home everyday and must be
returned the next school day. This folder is checked in school
every morning for notes and information for the office. Please
check your child’s folder every evening for notes and
announcements.
Finally, please
continue to encourage your child to think of school as a place
to be with friends and learn new information. We, too, will work
with your child to help them overcome their anxieties about
school. We are looking forward to a great educational year.
